Middleby acquires Colussi Ermes, leader in the production of industrial washing systems
(July 28, 2022) – Middleby Corporation announces the acquisition of Colussi Ermes, global leader in the production of automated washing solutions for the foodservice industry. The company, which realized over 5,000 machines worldwide and an annual turnover of about 50 million Euros, thanks to its continuous research and consolidated know-how over the years, has become specialized not only in the meat, dairy, confectionery, fruit & vegetables, poultry and fishery sectors but also in more complex fields such as the pharmaceutical, hospital and logistics sectors.
“Colussi Ermes is a highly respected, global leader directly addressing food safety and sanitation, a top priority across the entire food processing industry,” said Tim FitzGerald, Middleby CEO. “Colussi has the broadest offerings of automated washing solutions, covering a wide array of applications. Their washing solutions are in demand due to technology that reduces labor needs, decreases water and energy usage, minimizes chemical use and operates in a small footprint. The Colussi washing systems complement our existing food processing solutions and are incorporated in many of our current customer projects. Years of innovation led Colussi Ermes to the creation of the powerful “super-compact” spin-dryer – a machine that combines large drying capacity and minimum footprint. A great number of these centrifugal drying systems have been installed worldwide already. Colussi has achieved an impressive result, helping many industries reduce their impact on our planet by significantly decreasing the energy requirements to perfectly dry all types of rigid and collapsible crates and pallets.
Our centrifugal dryers allow saving energy by over 90% while ensuring an excellent final result. The Spin Drying System also improves the hygiene of the working place and diminishes the need for room dehumidification and conditioning thus reducing energy consumption also indirectly.

HONORIS CAUSA DEGREE CONFERRED TO INVENTOR AND INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEUR GIOVANNI BATTISTA COLUSSI
Udine, June 8th, 2020 – The University of Udine has honoured Giovanni Battista Colussi with the Honoris Causa Mechanical Engineering Master Degree. Giovanni Battista Colussi – who turned 70 on July 4th – is an inventor and a world-wide leader entrepreneur in the industrial washing and sanitizing field. The highest academic honorary recognition has been assigned to Colussi, as the motivation states, “because of professional profile, gained expertise, technical and entrepreneurial skills, creativity, wit and the capacity to promote product and process innovation.”
